Ancient Legends - New Dimensions

As part of the comprehensive redesign of the water slide area at Maya Mare, WEAD was commissioned by Aquarena to develop and implement the entire interactive effects system. The goal was to transform traditional water attractions into an immersive, customizable experience.

WEAD created a comprehensive system for all four slides that integrates lighting, media, interactivity, and user guidance—carefully tailored to the thematic design and technical requirements of a high-traffic swimming facility.

A key highlight is the “Kukulkan” tire slide. Among other features, it incorporates a high-performance projection system that projects a large-scale video display directly onto the tube as riders descend. Guests appear to move through vivid scenes—passing through underwater worlds or mythological depictions of the feathered serpent god. Combined with synchronized LED effects, this creates a spatial experience that far exceeds the limits of traditional slide illumination.

The other attractions have also been specifically equipped with interactive features. On the Double Racer slide, a scoreboard system developed by WEAD enables direct competition: ride times are recorded in real time, displayed visually, and supplemented with high-score features. This allows riders to immediately see how they stack up against their direct opponent.

The system is complemented by an integrated photo system that captures on-ride images and makes them available to users digitally. This is facilitated by an app—also developed by WEAD—that goes far beyond a simple display platform.

This app allows visitors to customize their slide experiences. Different themed worlds—featuring video, lighting effects, and sound—can be put together and personalized in advance. At the slide itself, the selected profile is recognized via an NFC-based system and played immediately. This turns every ride into a unique, repeatable, and customizable experience.

To ensure smooth and safe operations during regular business hours, intelligent traffic light and start systems have also been integrated to optimally coordinate visitor flow, timing, and capacity management.

The result is a fully integrated experience system:
